Biological Science graduate studies are a key element of the department-wide emphasis on research. In fact, the Master of Science in Biology (MSB) is one of few graduate programs on the CSUF campus where a student can work closely with an individual faculty mentor to design and undertake a novel, independent research project and write the results in a rigorous, scholarly thesis.

At the end of a student’s program, the need to work to pay the high cost of living expenses in Southern California often competes with the focused time and energy required to complete data analysis and writing of the Master's thesis. The Department has established a Teaching Associate Thesis Completion Fellowship to help offset expenses for MSB students who taught for the department and who are currently in the final stages of completing their program thesis. Your generous donation will help the Department make this fellowship available to two additional MSB graduate students.

In addition to building technical and professional skills necessary to be a professional biologist, most MSB students present their results at scientific conferences and many publish them in peer-reviewed journals. Many MSB students also develop teaching skills as teaching associates for the Department of Biological Science, which helps them gain employment in K-12 schools or community colleges, or to be successful in a PhD program, joining the academic pipeline.
