The Women in Computer Science and Engineering (WiCSE) learning community is focused on improving the retention and graduation of women in the College of Engineering and Computer Science via community-building, industry engagement, and technical and workplace skill-building programming. The WiCSE leadership council plans regular workshops and larger events for the WiCSE community and is integral to program operation.
WiCSE is looking to create $1,000 Student Leader Fellowships for five council members. The program is fortunate to have fellowships available for upper leadership through Edwards Lifesciences, which are often taken by 3rd and 4th year students after they have participated on the council for a year or more.
These fellowships can encourage students to apply early in their academic career for council spots by removing financial barriers to participation. Your support for additional fellowships will create a critical leadership pipeline, improving the strength, stability, and continuity for the WiCSE council.
As council members, student leaders take an active role in:
This experience develops these students’ leadership abilities such as:
By participating in the council, these students also are embedded in a unique leadership cohort with their peers. Experienced council members serve as peer mentors for these newer council members and all members receive guidance from the WiCSE program coordinator.
Support these fellowships and help nurture the next generation of women leaders in STEM. Thank you!
