The Transformative Praxis Research Lab

The Transformative Praxis Research Lab (TPRL) empowers graduate students and community members by facilitating experiential learning and enabling them to engage in anti-oppressive and liberation-based research. We need your support to provide graduate students with the opportunity to attend professional conferences and network with leading mental health scholars.

TPRL is conceived as a collaborative space that encourages active participation from counseling graduate students and marginalized communities, fostering the development of essential skills required for engaging in transformative and action-oriented research. Through a co-creative process, the lab endeavors to cultivate inclusivity, amplify diverse voices and center the experiences of historically marginalized individuals.

Since June 2023, our dedicated team has embarked on a collaborative journey with nine queer womxn of color. Together, we challenge incomplete and deficit-based narratives by delving into and celebrating their profound healing experiences within and beyond counseling. We are hosting "Through Our Lens: Queer Womxn of Color's Experiences of Healing and Liberation," a captivating collection of photographs and stories that amplifies the voices and healing experiences of queer womxn of color. This exceptional exhibit will be unveiled in honor of National Coming Out Day (October 11, 2023).

Furthermore, we are excited to share our groundbreaking research findings at two prestigious national counseling conferences: the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and the Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities. Our goal is to increase mental health professionals' awareness of healing practices utilized by queer womxn of color, offering insights that can be seamlessly integrated into their clinical approaches.

Donations will enable us to:

  • continue co-designing and conducting liberatory research.
  • assist others in practicing socially-just research.
  • uplift graduate students working in the service of our community and seeking doctoral programs.
  • facilitate the attendance of our graduate students at national and regional conferences.
  • help our students present their groundbreaking research.
  • connect students with like-minded professionals and partake in meaningful professional development.

When you give, you play a pivotal role in amplifying the impact of our Titan’s work and empowering us to actively promote anti-oppressive and liberation-based research.
