University Singers Tour of Africa: Rwanda and South Africa

In July 2024, the University Singers will travel to Rwanda and South Africa as part of a humanitarian concert tour co-sponsored by former President Virjee’s non-profit organization, Yambi Rwanda. They will learn about the genocide that occurred in 1994 and will experience the related cultural wounds that permeate Rwandan society. The singers have been invited to perform alongside Rwandan Choirs in a concert at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, as part of the Ubumuntu Arts Festival marking the 30th Anniversary of the end of the Genocide. Cal State Fullerton’s University Singers are the only international choir to receive this historic invitation.

The students will engage in humanitarian recovery efforts, exchange performances with African singers, music education with children, perform in culturally significant concert venues alongside African partners, collaborate with African college and high school students and will serve as ambassadors for the United States and CSUF’s mission and goals.

Members of CSUF’s University Singers represent the highest level of artistic achievement in the School of Music. The students are primarily first-generation students, many identify as BIPOC members of marginalized communities and most cite significant financial burdens in their life.

Give today and help cover the student travel expenses and expenses related to performing and working in Africa so our Titans can have a once-in-a-lifetime educational, humanitarian and artistic travel experience to Rwanda and South Africa in July 2024.
