Treating Acute Respiratory Distress from COVID-19

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by Covid-19 is a life-threatening condition that causes low blood oxygen. ARDS carries a high mortality, and few effective therapeutic modalities exist to combat this condition. There is clearly an unmet medical need for the development of drugs for the treatment of ARDS and our goal is to identify and develop effective molecular therapies for ARDS.

The research done with in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will generate important knowledge relevant to rational drug design for the treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) caused by Covid-19. Proper funding will support phase one of this project, where we will for the first time, research drug candidates that simultaneously target two enzymes known to be involved in both, lung inflammation and lung fibrosis.

This project, led by Dr. Stevan Pecic, is scheduled to last six months and cost $25,000. Your support, at any amount, will help directly fund this cutting edge scientific research. Donated funds will benefit needs such as:

  • Graduate assistant
  • Lab materials needed to conduct the research
  • Efficient and accurate distribution of results to the wider medical community.

The Titan family is strong enough to overcome even the toughest situations. We band together. We uplift one another. We continue to reach higher. Let's show our students, the CSUF community and the world how much Titans care.
